Agile Jargon Translator.

Agile uses its own terminology that can be confusing at first. To make it easier for you, we have put together a glossary of Agile’s key terms.

Agile

Agile

Agile uses an iterative approach to building products and delivering services. Rather than focusing on the perfect end product, an agile team delivers work in small increments. Work is continuously evaluated making teams responsive and adaptable to change. Agile is not a project management tool but an entire way of thinking. Read more.

Scrum

Scrum

Scrum is an Agile framework that allows you to approach work in an Agile way. While Agile is about a set of principles, Scrum is a framework for getting the work done.

Sprints

Sprints

In Scrum, work is split into manageable chunks called Sprints. These Sprints reduce risks as changes can be implemented quickly and keep everyone motivated as you can see value quicker. Each Sprint begins with a planning session where teams prioritise their work and ends with a retro where teams discuss the results.

Kanban

Kanban

Kanban is a work management system that helps teams to visualise their work and to manage their workload. Teams use Kanban Boards, where they can easily see what stage items of work are at and Kanban Cards, which show what items of work need to be completed.

Waterfall

Waterfall

Waterfall is a linear project management where end goals are decided from the beginning. It does not allow the same level of flexibility as Agile.
